Football players make a difference at Charity Golf Classic

Jun. 22–DARIEN — The average career for an NFL player is just 3 1/2 years, so New York Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn has already bucked the odds after making the roster as an undrafted free agent out of Akron in 2005.

As he prepares for his sixth tiffany jewelry  professional season with the Giants, Blackburn cherishes the chance to make a difference in the community.

Some athletes may beg to differ, but the way Blackburn sees it, he is a role model — and proud of it.

“Our time in the league typically doesn’t last too long but the impact we can make sure can,” said Blackburn, who drove up from true religion jeans Paramus, New Jersey. “Our words carry a lot of weight with kids, I know I would have loved to have met a professional football player when I was growing up in Ohio. I try to get to as many charity events as I can, I just feel like it’s the honorable thing to do. This is a beautiful course from what I hear, so that doesn’t hurt either.”

The latest stop on Blackburn’s busy off-season itinerary was the Country Club of Darien, which once again played host to the NFL Alumni Connecticut Chapter’s fourth annual Charity Golf Classic.

Monday’s full day of festivities featured an 18-hole team scramble in which each foursome was captained by a former — or in louis vuitton handbags Blackburn’s case — a current player, a live auction and an awards dinner. In keeping with the NFL Alumni’s “Caring for Kids” motto, the event is designed to raise money for youth-related charities, including several in Fairfield County.

Stories among old friends and once bitter rivals continued well into the evening Monday.
